Microwaves for the regenerative economy
Clean and renewable energy sources, electrification, and ensuring the highest possible energy efficiency - with the fewest possible losses - are all essential components in the fight against CO2 emissions and global warming. But society has even greater challenges. We see before us an increasing scarcity of natural resources, increased pollutants and waste, tragic biodiversity loss, and growing economic and social disparities.
To combat this there is a growing conviction that a rapid transition towards a regenerative economy is required. The concept of regeneration goes far beyond sustainability, which in itself is positive, but still not enough to reverse the negative impacts of prior 'damage'. Regeneration (the clue is in the word) considers the wider, holistic, needs of people and society. It entails the positive ‘regeneration’ of earth's resources, ecosystems and societal impacts.
To this end, Swiss organisation, Tech4Regeneration, has selected SolidWatts to enter a 9 month programme. The programme fosters collaborations between different stakeholders to help disruptive startups deploy and scale-up their technologies through regenerative business models and strategies.
Markus Aicheler, SolidWatts CEO, commented, “I understand 68 startups applied for this year's cohort, of which 20 were selected. I’m delighted that, once again, our mission - and the technology we have developed to fulfil it - has passed the scrutiny of a highly informed and experienced selection committee. As we talk with potential customers and advisors, and as we become selected for programmes like this, we are encouraged to see others recognizing the many positive impacts of our solution. When we first came up with the idea for SolidWatts, Jan Kovermann (co-founder and CTO) and I were excited not only by the technological challenge, but by the possibility to contribute to energy transition through the electrification of industry and the displacement of fossil fuels. Then, as we explored more deeply, we realised our technology would in fact enable new regenerative processes, like direct carbon capture, the advanced recycling of PET and even clean electricity generation. This all ties in very well to the concept of a regenerative economy and I’m excited to learn and adapt as we progress through the Tech4Regeneration programme.”
If you are developing new greentech solutions that require heat, or the application of microwave radio frequency power, please do contact us. We’d be happy to explore your project and to see where we might be able to help.
